Today was Portfolio day, graduates display their work for potential employers and other staff and students. It was, to say the least, intimidating. There was one girl who's work was just stunning. Part of me wonder if I can pull it off - being a student and a mom. While they tell you your classmates are your competition, i don't ever think i am that type of cutthroat competitor. But I'm already feeling like i'm slacking because I cannot pour as many hours into my work as others can. My family has to come first. I guess I am feeling overwhelmed.
I'm very glad i've found something i'm passionate about, i guess it's really consuming a lot of my energy and i want to make sure that Bob and Noah gets my attention and care first and foremost.
I must say i'm really glad that I have Bob, who cares and tries so hard for me to persue this. He stayed up with me every day this whole week to help me finish up my final projects - a skirt, a top and my boards. He did all my buttonholes and two of my buttons. What a sweet husband, huh?
I'm also glad i've found two really supportive and awesome friends - Emily and Omar who always help me out whenever I need it. Not to mention picking up my supplies that I leave behind each class - i seem to be holding the record of at least one item per day.
My patterndrafting final top was a disaster, nothing turned out the way i intended it. The fabric I chose to work with did not agree with me unfortunately. But it's ok, i got it done, it's graded, not my best work in the class, but i spent so many hours on it, I could not have done better, so i will not complain.
My sewing final skirt turned out alright, made a little mistake on the waistband, but my teacher liked it and decided to display it nonetheless.
Anyway, today I felt like I could breathe again, all my finals are over and I can sleep and relax and not do much. Bob and my mom took care of Noah so I could go with Emily and Omar to Nordstrom's downtown to meet BCBG's Max Azria!! So excited, his collection and style is amazingly beautiful, we looked at the seams and sewing up close - it was excellent. (My mom's and my dress from the Alaska Cruise was from his line!) We were such big dorks, we went up to Max and said we were design students and he smiled and was really polite and seemed like a really nice guy. He signed his spring line catalogue for us and took pictures with us! Yay us. He also asked me if my name was Greek :)
Enjoy pictures!
Meeting Max Azria at Nordstrom!

Being completely normal people at Pike Place Market and Downtown Seattle. Piroshky Piroshky was delicious.

Me, Omar and Emily posing next to our skirts that got displayed. Ahh, such silly first quarter students...

Their beautiful tops that also got displayed! Yay!
Second quarter, here we come!
